This November, Slapstick Festival is proud to bring two events close to our hearts to The Hexagon in Reading — a heartfelt, one-day celebration of the life, legacy, and laughter of Monty Python legend Terry Jones, featuring his close friend and fellow Python, Sir Michael Palin, live on stage.
A close friend and supporter of Slapstick, Terry’s boundless imagination and his irreverent wit helped redefine British comedy and continue to inspire new audiences. As part of our ongoing mission to honour the pioneers of screen comedy, we’re thrilled to be producing a day dedicated to his remarkable onscreen work — featuring two very special events on the same stage, on the same day.
The afternoon begins with a rare big-screen presentation of Terry’s best-loved and most acclaimed film, Monty Python’s Life of Brian (1979). Hailed as one of the greatest British comedies ever made, it’s a masterpiece of fearless satire and unforgettable performances — and to make the occasion even more special, it will be personally introduced by Sir Michael Palin, offering his own personal tribute to his close friend and collaborator.
Then, in the evening, Michael returns to the stage for an exclusive in-conversation event with actor, comedian, writer, and friend of Terry’s, Sanjeev Bhaskar, reflecting on Terry’s exceptional career as a writer, director, humorist, historian, and performer. Illustrated with clips and stories from across Terry’s work — from Ripping Yarns and Erik the Viking to Life of Brian and The Meaning of Life — this will be a rare chance to celebrate the life and art of one of comedy’s true visionaries.
Top Comedy Historian and Terry’s friend Robert Ross will also be on hand to sign copies of his brand-new book Seriously Silly: The Life of Terry Jones. A must-have for any fan, this definitive book celebrates Jones’s extraordinary contribution to comedy and film culture.
We’re offering a special £5 discount on the top-tier film ticket when booked with the evening conversation event — a full afternoon and evening immersed in the genius of Terry Jones, curated and presented with love by Slapstick.
Join us for this unforgettable one-off celebration of a towering figure in British comedy, in the company of one of his dearest friends.
